What is CBD vape? Hemp-derived cannabidiol formulated for inhalation via a vaping device — the same cannabinoid as CBD oil, delivered differently. Is CBD vape legal in Australia? CBD is governed by the TGA; no CBD vape product is currently ARTG-approved for over-the-counter sale, and nicotine vaping products face strict separate controls. Do we sell CBD vape in Geelong? No — CBD Oil Geelong sells CBD oil across VIC, not vape products. Those three answers cover the essentials; the detail behind each one is below.

The FAQ structure below works through each question in sequence. Each section stands on its own — if you are here for one specific answer, skip to it directly.
What is CBD vape?
A CBD vape product is hemp-derived cannabidiol formulated for vaporisation and inhalation. Three components make up the format:
The liquid: A hemp-derived CBD extract dissolved in a carrier liquid suited to heating. The CBD extract can be isolate (pure CBD, no THC), broad-spectrum (multiple cannabinoids, THC removed) or full-spectrum (whole-plant, trace THC under 0.3%). The carrier is typically propylene glycol (PG), vegetable glycerin (VG) or MCT oil formulated specifically for vaporisation — not the same as the MCT carrier in an oral CBD tincture. These are distinct formulations for distinct applications; a vape liquid is not suitable for oral use, and an oral CBD oil is not suitable for vaping.
The device: A vaping pen, cartridge or pod system that heats the liquid to produce a vapour. Without a compatible device, the liquid cannot be used. Devices range from disposable single-use pens to refillable systems with separate cartridges.
The delivery route: Inhalation. The heated vapour is breathed in; the cannabinoid reaches the body via the lungs rather than via the digestive system as with an oral CBD oil. This is the defining feature of the format.
The CBD content in milligrams and the spectrum are stated on the product label, following the same labelling conventions as CBD oil.
Is CBD vape legal in Australia?
The regulatory picture has two overlapping parts, both of which matter.
On CBD: The Therapeutic Goods Administration governs CBD in Australia. The 2021 down-scheduling reclassified low-dose cannabidiol (up to 150 mg/day) from prescription-only to pharmacist-only, opening a theoretical over-the-counter pathway for approved products. For a product to use that channel, it must first be listed on the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG). No CBD vape product is currently ARTG-listed for over-the-counter sale via that pathway.
On vaping: Australia significantly tightened vaping regulation in 2023. Nicotine vaping products are now pharmacist-only under the Therapeutic Goods Act: they can only be supplied by a pharmacy to a patient with a valid prescription; general retail sale is prohibited. These rules apply specifically to nicotine vaping products. CBD and nicotine are different substances, but a CBD vape product still intersects with the regulatory framework surrounding vaping devices and liquids.
The combined position: CBD vaping sits at the junction of both frameworks — CBD as a scheduled substance and the rules on vaping — without a dedicated approved lane. CBD vape products sold online to Australian customers do exist from various sources, but their compliance depends on specific composition, labelling and classification. The TGA website is the authoritative reference; this page is information, not legal advice.
For Geelong and the rest of VIC: no TGA-approved CBD vape product is currently available from an Australian retailer via a clear over-the-counter framework.
What is the difference between CBD vape and CBD oil?
Delivery route: CBD oil is taken orally — drops held under the tongue for sublingual absorption, or swallowed. CBD vape is inhaled after the liquid is heated by a device. These are different routes through the body.
The carrier and formulation: CBD oil is hemp extract in an oral carrier oil — typically MCT from coconut — with a short, readable ingredient list. A CBD vape liquid uses PG, VG or vaporisation-grade MCT, formulated for heating rather than consumption. The two are different products for different applications; they cannot be used interchangeably.
Equipment: CBD oil requires only a dropper for dosing and taking. A CBD vape product requires a compatible vaping device. This is an additional practical and cost consideration.
Regulatory position: An oral CBD oil sold as a therapeutic good is assessed under the TGA's defined therapeutic framework. A CBD vape product intersects two areas — CBD regulation and vaping-device regulation — without a dedicated approved lane in Australia.
Market availability: Some CBD oil products are ARTG-listed for pharmacist-only sale in Australia. No CBD vape product has an equivalent approved listing.
Neither format is inherently better or worse: they are different delivery mechanisms for the same cannabinoid.
